A glass of Barolo for Yas…
July 4, 2005It was an evening of perfection - “beautiful people”, best wine with fried Camembert cheese with Currant Coulis, bite size goat cheese, California Walnut Cheesecakes, Cheddar and Chutney bites….We attended the Barolo “wine and cheese” party a few days ago and we had the privilege of having the best wine in the world…or at least for us….The Barolo wine. It’s called the "king of wine" and the "wine of kings." It is a DOCG wine, made entirely from the Nebbiolo grape. Once you have experience good examples of this wine, you will begin to understand its nobility. I thought I’ve tried the best wine like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Viognier, and single varietals Cabernet Franc (rare to find because of its tiny production – 900 cases per year), and my favorite Chilean wine? But Barolo is a unique wine that many people haven't had the opportunity to try. It is typically very expensive because it is expensive to grow, expensive to make and expensive to age. But a well-made Barolo is a truly unique experience. The Barolo is a robust red–very dry and full bodied, high in tannin, acidity, and alcohol. The aroma suggests tar, violets, roses, ripe strawberries, and truffles. It is often described as a chewy wine. When Barolo is produced in the traditional rustic style it can be hard when young. When it is aged properly and given time to mellow the harsh elements begin to soften and reveal many layers of complexity. Production rules stipulate that a Barolo is not a Barolo until it has aged for three years at the winery or for five years if it is called Riserva. It benefits from additional aging and often requires ten to twenty years total aging from the year of vintage. It is best to open a Barolo an hour before serving for proper aeration.
Strip Tease
June 29, 2005Last Saturday’s typhoon didn’t stop us from having so much fun…I was stunned to find out that the entire “tali group” was invited to Anna’s surprise “bachelorette” party in Rockwell. The surprise party was organized by Anna’s sister two weeks ago. The "Tali Guys" weren't supposed to be invited. They had strippers (male and female) for the event. However, the girls got scared of the idea of a guy stripping in front of them so they decided to invite the entire Tali Group. We witnessed everything, all the screams and the bravura performances…. It was a once in a lifetime experience. I’ve never seen anything like it. We had so much fun so we flaked on our next party.
Ex encounter…
June 23, 2005
I saw my ex a few days ago. I hate Makati. It’s too small. You can only wine and dine in few places. We were having dinner in Masas then one of my friends asked me the question I hated so much. “Alvin, what if I told you that Rica just walked in?" Darn, I was having fun but of course I had to turn. There she was, still the perfect girl in my life, the one who got away. Although, it has been two years but I still don’t like the idea of seeing her with another guy. I smiled and she approached to say hi to everyone. She first kissed me and then asked the usual question, “how are things with you?" I pretended to be the king of the world and answered, “couldn’t be better”. But what I wanted to tell her was something else…something like “Cheater! Thanks for breaking my heart." Yes, that is the sad part. I’ve been dating but I always end up comparing everyone against her. We were together for seven years. The best years of my life and I don’t want to talk about it. She broke my heart many times. She’s a commercial model and endorses products so she has billboards everywhere. I remember two years ago when we parted ways and I went to Boracay for a few weeks to nourish a broken heart, I even saw a poster of her. It was so sad. A guy trying to move on but always reminded of his ex coz she's in the bottle of a shampoo, brochures of banks, newspapers and magazines. Tough one but I’m getting there. I know I will but it’ll be a slow journey.
Now, I’m wondering, “was it great love, big love or love”? Does it mean that when you had your chance and you blew it then you’d have to wait for another lifetime?
End of my misery…
Many people have been waiting for me to finally choose a topic in my blogsite. I thought of my dogs (I love dogs so much, proud owner of Pomeranians), my favorite sports, health, family and friends. To be honest, I wanted to talk about my dogs. I attend dog shows every month. I have friends who show dogs around the world and I’m so thankful for their buttress throughout the years. However, I want to blog often so I have to write about something that will allow me to document my life. Finally, after so much consideration, I decided to write about the most influential people in my life (aside from my family) - my real, gorgeous, witty, and almost perfect friends. Who are they? Wow, there’s a lot but for now it'll be about the people who I see often. So from now on, everything will be about the “tali group” experiences.
