Of Friends, Lovers, and Chelsea

  Once upon a time, in the faraway land of South F., a philanthropist and a gorgeous Paris-bred woman had a daughter who loved fashion. The little girl grew up and became one of the most fearless trendsetters of her generation. She's Marie L., one of Preview magazine's best dressed of 2007. (This issue will hit newsstands in July).

She's pregnant and still into high fashion. How's that possible? Oh well, it runs in the family. Her sister is one of the most successful (and equally gorgeous) photographers in L.A.

Marie's recent elevation as an A list celeb merited a convening of the whole group of course. So on a slightly damp Saturday, our levity impervious to the capricious turns of the weather, we found ourselves at Serendra to celebrate not just the leaps and bounds in Marie's career, but more so, the highly anticipated arrival of baby "Nikos" who is slated to make an appearance in the very near future. As always we were a force to be reckoned with, clad of course in the finest fashion that ordinary folk normally scour cheap knock-offs of in places such as Greenhills. (Sorry, our group has so much respect for great designers). Friends from around the globe jetted in for the colorful carousal. Jessica cut her Euro vacation short. Even the ever lovely Yasmina, caught up in a whirlwind of preparation of her Fall wedding in Spain, postponed her fitting in Milan just to be with us.

For better or worse, we were all ourselves that night. Just the way it should be…

The following day…

“Colby finish your food and go to sleep because I'm going out tonight.” I told my dog and then my phone starts ringing. Someone left me a message so I listened to it. “Alvs, Ayanna here. I'm still in the country. I'm confused. I want to see you. Whatever. Just call me.”

A perfect time to seek help from the people who matter in your life. It was such a delicate matter and I was too naïve to decide on my own. Awwww….. So they all went to my house and we listened to her message perhaps a hundred times before returning her call.

I have all the respect in the world for Ayanna. She was the only woman I've ever been serious with after my highly scandalous breakup….

Later that day, it got me thinking about dating, relationships, exclusivity, and life long bondage. Imagine how lucky I am to have the perfect friends to help  me narrow down the choices so my life will be easier to clinch?! I know that this is the best time to take stock of my feelings and figure out what I really want. Now, do I really know what makes me happy? Perhaps!?
