Spanish Engagement…

April 16, 2007

“Tonight is going to be a tough one for us.” I told Andrew after finishing our last lap for the day. “I know Alvs. We will have our time. Everyone's going to be there so let's have fun tonight.” Andrew says as he handed me my towel and a bottle of Voss.

The whole group gathered last weekend to celebrate another engagement. The world should be weeping as I type this entry because our dearest darling Yasmina, gorgeous and effortlessly fabulous, is now off the market. Yes folks, one of the greatest catches this side of the hemisphere (and possibly the other as well) has been caught. We, her equally gorgeous friends, are more than happy with the catcher. Jose Manuel, one of Spain's most eligible bachelors, made us all weep with how sweet the proposal turned out.

The engagement happened at one of our favorite vacation spots in Boracay. Punta Rosa is one of the most charming places at the westernmost tip of the island. The rosy-pink buildings remains just almost secluded from the busy island making it an ideal place for people who crave for privacy.

Yasmina wakes up without Jose on her side. She gets up, sees a note that says “I didn't wake you up my angel,” goes to the balcony and looks at the breathtaking view of the shore. She was perplexed but remembered that they have dinner plans so she grabs her phone and called Jose. Jose answered the phone and said that he was at the roofdeck waiting for her.

Yasmina sees Jose. He kisses her and asks her to sitdown. She felt something on the chair so she stood up and found a little box. The spotlight is on them now. The world stops and the heaven opens its gates to witness a miracle. Jose moves closer, kisses her, and goes “I thought I had seen the world until I met you. You have made me feel in ways I'm not familiar with. I'm offering you the world and my love without boundaries. Will you hold me close forever? Marry me?!”  Awwwwwww… Now, wipe those tears!

“Nothing could match that moment. I waited a lifetime for it. The wedding will be in Spain sometime in September and you are all coming!” Yasmina says as she shows her perfect emerald cut diamond ring to everyone.

Wow! It was a truly envy worthy engagement, romantic is an understatement, a word too small to capture exactly what they shared. Jose showed us how a Spanish in the midst of a fury of emotions can form verses out of pure love. Era una celebracion de amor, de dos personas muy enamorados!

I could see some of my friends looking at me so I finally said, “I'm fine. This is Yasmina's night so let's all have fun and leave me alone…”  The truth is I want answers. Why am I always the best man, a groomsman, or part of the entourage but never the groom???

============================
Anyhow, I'm not about to ruin this entry with dramas of my life. We are all very excited for this wedding… and of course partying in Europe! I'm packed already Yas! :-)

Wow! I guess you’re right. “Romantic” was just a word, and can never describe that moment that was both the end and the beginning of something!

Cheers to your friend! :)

Great entry. So full of hope and happiness. I’m happy for the engaged couple.

Regarding you always being the best man…..Do not worry about it Alvs. You’ll get there someday. Better to be picky of who your life partner will be than jumping right into it then finding out later that it was not meant to be.
