Surf Your Love Away…

September 8, 2005

Is it really the end of an era? What happens when the quintessential party boy all of a sudden announces that “he finally found someone”?
Paolo, the Abercrombie Guy, another almost perfect friend of mine (he didn’t make it to my birthday party coz’ he was so darn busy surfing in Hawaii), wants to settle down. He knows that the girl he’s seeing is the one for him. What’s going on?

Paolo’s parents died on a plain crash when he was 7 years old. His friends are his family. He grew up knowing that the only way to enjoy life is to drink “rum coke” until 3AM, dance until 6AM, sleep for 1 day then surf for 6 hours when he wakes up. How I wish? He believes that life is too short so we should all enjoy it while we can. I grew up with him. We were neighbors for 12 years. He was the one who taught me to take care of my body, be athletic, and enjoy life to the fullest. I should be positive and always remember that we have the water as our best friend. If you can’t find him in the city then he’s at the beach laying out or surfing for hours.

He called me up asking how to propose? What ring to get and where to do it?
Paolo met Alexis in one of the surfing competitions in Hawaii. She’s an Abercrombie girl, his female version. I was all praises when I met her a few months ago.  None of my friends will enter into a relationship without my “seal of approval”! My opinion matters a lot because I am their “guru”. Hehehehehe…

Anyway, a ring from Tiffany or Cartier equals a big YES!
I told him to do a “Proposal Message in a Bottle”.
- Take her to a gondola ride in a small lake. Halfway through the ride, have the gondolier drop the bottle in the water silently and then “bafflingly” ask her to pick up something that had fallen in the water. She will surely pick it up and will realize that the bottle has been put there just for her. There should be a letter inside the bottle. (Most romantic letter saying how thankful you are for her presence in your life….) this will definitely make her cry. Look into her eyes, take her hand, kneel before her and say “ I kneel before you not as a prince but as a man in love but I’d surely feel like a king if you would have me as your husband”… She will definitely say YES!!!

Now I believe that people change. Paolo was the last person I thought who would get married in the group. He is the living proof that we are really fated for someone. This means that we should trust life and have faith that one-day we will have our own “Gondola Ride”.

Aw, he's getting married. I so envy him.

My relationships have been very trying, probably because though I fall in love about once an hour, I tire of women very quickly and easily. And this is probably because I'm way too in love with myself (both mentally and physically) to ever care about another person. It's gonna be difficult for me to find a girl I could spend my life with as I'm very picky. I mean come on, I'm an internet star. duh.

hmmmm….. tiffany and cartier are so 5 minutes ago! You could've suggested something else dude. But anyways, what ever gets the ladies is fine I guess.
Another suggestion is proposing at Break Waters in Roxas Blvd. But knowing you, I bet you don't know that or Isaw or carinderia.

i proposed on the helipad of a condo overlooking the school where we first met and our friendship grew. i could not afford to take her on an exotic trip so i made her dinner, served on nice china i borrowed from a friend, on a game table draped with pretty curtains. neither could i afford a branded ring, so i had one custom made with almost a years worth in savings. even then it wasn't anything too fancy. i was so nervous i completely forgot the speech i labored for weeks to write and ended up saying, "i love you and i know that won't ever change. be my wife?" we've been married for over 3 years now and still going strong. i'm just sharing here really. best of luck to your friend. my advice though is this, it doesn't matter where or how or even how much. propose with all your heart and soul, with as much love as you can possibly show. if she loves you back, she could never say no.
